The work of the UN Open Ended Inter-governmental Working Group (OEIGWG) developing a legally binding international instrument on Transnational Corporations (TNCs) and other business enterprises is now in its second year. This OEIGWG was mandated in June 2014 (AHRC/29/6) and its work has opened a new historic chapter in putting the challenge of regulation of TNCs back on the international agenda. Furthermore it underscores the enduring search by affected communities for effective access to justice and end to corporate impunity.

This side meeting will hear the perspectives of different sectors – affected communities, trade unions and women networks. It will also update on the ongoing momentum of public initiatives and debate at national and international levels in the preparation for the second Session of the OEIGWG by both governments and civil society.

The overall objective is to broaden and strengthen the participation and engagement of governments and civil society in this stage of the preparatory process.

It also aims to identify key moments in the Political Calendar conductive to advancing the work of the OEIGWG.

Interpretation to French and English.
