Solidarity message with Paulina Muñoz Samaniego from the Global Campaign to dismantle Corporate Power and put an End to Impunity

The Global Campaign to dismantle Corporate Power and put an End to Impunity is deeply concerned by the threats and harassment that Paulina Muñoz Samaniego, a long time HR activist from Ecuador, has suffered systematically during the last eight months. She has received anonymous threats including notes of intimidation and delivery of a bouquet of flowers.

Paulina Muñoz Samaniego is an advocate of human rights, since 2000 working as an activist for the rights of women at the “Colectivo de Mujeres Acción Política” since 2004. She participated in the struggle against the Free Trade Agreement with the US. States and, later, with the European Union. She is currently part of the network of social organizations “Ecuador Decide”, which opposes the Free Trade Agreement (FTA) with Europe, and integrates the Global Campaign. As part of “Ecuador Decide”, she has also supported the work of the Ecuadorian Commission for a Comprehensive Audit of Investment Protection Treaties and of the International Arbitration (CAITISA).

At present, the Global Campaign reiterates its outrage on threats against Paulina Muñoz Samaniego and possibly other activists committed to the defence of human rights and the struggle against the Architecture of Impunity, that corporations intent to impose in all the planet. In this context, we demand of the competent authorities, especially the General Attorney, that they undertake the necessary investigations to identify the responsible. The Global Campaign will remain attentive to the results thereof, as well as on the guarantees that the Ecuadorian authorities will provide to Paulina Muñoz Samaniego.
